The Community Cares Program Purpose: TCAC Community Cares' mission is to provide in-home assistance to frail, challenged seniors and people of all ages with disabilities. Across the State of Tennessee, Community Cares AmeriCorps members are "getting things done" for nearly 5,000 Tennesseans. AmeriCorps members provide light housekeeping, respite care, personal care, grocery shopping, companionship, transportation, and make seniors safer through disaster preparedness. AmeriCorps members are instrumental in linking those served with community resources, mediating and advocating, but most importantly members help those in need to remain living independently in their own homes with a sense of pride and dignity, eliminating the need for most to be forced into nursing homes.
What qualifications do I need to be in the Community Cares Program? Any US citizen or legal permanent resident alien 17 years old or older can be a member of AmeriCorps, from 17 to 117! Applicants must have a clean background check, strong desire to serve seniors and people with disabilities, valid driver's license and transportation, high school diploma or equivalency or be willing to obtain a GED within the program year, commitment to serve for 52 weeks and willing to travel and attend pre, post, and in-service training, workshops, and two national days of service each year.
