TCAC's Community VISTA Program

This is one of the largest privately funded VISTA programs in the United States. Over 36 VISTAs serve with public housing communities to develop programs and partners within those areas. TCAC VISTAs serve 24/7, establishing programs that are instrumental in developing a better community. These  VISTAs coordinate life-long, meaningful changes that affect the health, safety, economic stability, and attitudes of the residents who live within the community.  VISTAs develop and strengthen resident programs while also recruiting and training volunteers to build capacity and promote sustainability in order to make a difference in Tennessee.

TCAC Tennessee READS Program

TN Reads VISTAs serve in low-performing school systems throughout Tennessee. This collaborative effort between the Corporation for National Service (CNCS) and TCAC has helped to increase the reading and math scores of students who otherwise would be left behind. VISTAs also work with parents to address issues that may arise because of a lack of educational opportunities or low communication skills.

TCAC Community Cares AmeriCorps Program

This program serves the low-income senior population. TCAC's exemplary Community Cares Program assists the frail, elderly, and challenged individuals so they may remain in their homes instead of being sent to assisted living communities or nursing homes. At a time when costs for the elderly are constantly sky-rocketing, TCAC's AmeriCorp members provides this service free of charge to the recipients. AmeriCorps members are there to "get the job done" by assisting with daily tasks, while allowing the residents they serve to maintain their dignity, pride, and confidence.
